Position Summary : This position will assist the school cafeteria team in the processes necessary to provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to TPS students; focusing primarily on the quality and quantity of food production of menu items and may assist the Assistant Cafeteria Manager or Cafeteria Manager in completion of records and other administrative tasks . Minimum Qualifications: Education: • High school diploma , GED , or equivalent food handlers experience in lieu of education Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc .: • Must possess or be willing to obtain a current Food Handler’s Permit issued via the Tulsa City/County Health Department Experience : • One (1) year proven experience in working in a kitchen setting with the ability to follow the recipes for all menu items and support the process of preparing menu items to meet service/ mealtimes • Previous experience in a school cafeteria is a plus Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: • Must be able to read, speak, write , and understand English Physical Requirements : • Be able to lift, pull, or push up to up 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds • Be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time Other: • Proficient in Spanish is a plus • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from district sites Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. • Prepares food menu items following standardized recipes and HACCP (food safety) guidelines • Oversees and is responsible for all aspects of quantity food preparation, beginning with the pre -preparation stage through the clean -up stage • Maintains standards for food quality and food safety • Assists cafeteria manager in placing orders and inspects food and supplies according to established specifications and procedures as determined by menus, volume, and student needs • Follows portion control and serving instructions as per menu • Cleans small and large equipment as per cleaning schedules and position descriptions located at school sites • Cross -trains in all positions in the kitchen • Acts as cashier at some school site s • Assists cafeteria manager in the completion and maintenance of required departmental records in an organized manner ; including production records, HAACP records, monthly inventory, monthly physical safety inspections, and monthly food safety inspections • Follows and complies with all Federal, State, and Departmental mandates concerning Child Nutrition programs • Attends and participates in relevant training classes, staff meetings, and workshops • Participates and promotes CN marketing and promotions programs • Perform s other tasks, duties, or services consistent with this position as assigned Skills and Abilities Required: The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties. • Ability to work quick ly to analyze a situation, work efficiently and patiently under stressful conditions, and provide timely solutions • Ability to oscillate between independent and collaborative work with ease • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and possess a calm and respectful demeanor when interacting with students, parents, and school personnel • Open to change and adapts easily to changing situations and problems • Ability to create buy -in from people with diverse perspectives and backgrounds for new ideas and approaches Customer Contacts : • Internal: TPS District Employees • External: Students, parents, vendors, partner agencies Supervisory Responsibilities: • This role does not directly supervise any individuals Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable. • Able to tolerate exposure to higher -than-average room temperature and humidity • Able to tolerate noise, movement, and a fast -paced environment • Able to tolerate cleaning supplies and odors associated with these cleaning agents • Must be comfortable in a kitchen setting Tulsa Public Schools is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team of individuals who contribute to the district's mission with their talents, skills, and energy.
