Position Summary : To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and
environment so that students may learn effectively. Although teacher assistants serve students
attending private schools, the teacher assistant is an employee of Tulsa Public Schools and
reports to the Assistant Director of Grant Compliance. Teacher assistants working in the private
schools must supplement and not supplant other services provided by the private school.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• 48 hours of approved college credit, an associate degree from an accredited school or
successful completion of a district approved highly qualified test
Experience:
• One (1) year experience working with children preferred
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Etc. :
• Proficient or willing to learn Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of
performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified
individual with a disability to perform essential functions.
• Participates in daily and long -range lesson and classroom activity planning
• Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children
• Guides children in working and/or playing harmoniously with other children
• Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children
• Listens to the students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks, guiding and
helping them, but not teaching them
• Helps maintain individual records for each child
• Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas
• Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays
• Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the
teacher
• Enforces school board policies and regulations
• Provides support instruction following the initial instruction by the lead teacher
• Inputs data and runs select reports from developed software; the database includes
students , teachers, and classes
• Maintains an orderly lab environment
• Works cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and consultants to ensure a smooth
operation, as applicable and appropriate
• Generates appropriate summary reports for program monitoring and evaluation
• Performs other duties, tasks, or services consistent with this position as assigned

• Must pass Highly Qualified if less than 48 hours of approved college credit
• Demonstrate self -discipline and initiative
• Follow federal, state and district guidelines

Supervisory Responsibility:
• This role does not supervise any individuals
