Position Summary : A roofer apprentice will report directly to the shop foreperson in the day to - day operation of the maintenance programs; does skilled work in maintenance and inspections of all types of roofs. Experience in carpentry in cutting, sizing, aligning and overlapping roofing paper and/or other roofing materials, as well as, the ability to use roofing tools is preferred. The roofer apprentice will be required to climb roofs 30 to 100 feet high to repair and inspect roofs; read blueprints and sketch areas needing repaired; assist with maintain a roofing program for all Tulsa Public Schools sites, which includes routine ins pections and scheduled roof repairs. Must follow assigned duties and complete jobs in a timely manner. Must possess the ability to learn/perform complex difficult tasks and demonstrate good organizational skills. Other duties may be assigned. The roofer apprentice is a position that is in part educational training to become a roofer. Therefore, he or she is responsible for learning all procedures for maintaining roof systems and drainage, comply with local and federal regulations, and comply with safety requirements. The apprentice must show continued im provement in skill set and knowledge base in order to advance to a craftsperson position. Minimum Qualifications: Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent. • Completion from an accredited trade school is preferred. Specialized Knowledge, License, etc.: • Must have and maintain a current Oklahoma driver’s license with no restrictions that would preclude driving on the job. • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to plan and coordinate work schedules to complete job assignments without direct supervision. • Perform various tasks as assigned by mangers as needed. • Must be willing to work overtime without advance notice. Experience: • Previous working experience is preferred. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. • Keep records of time, detailed tasks performed, and material for all jobs. • Coordinate with other shops as needed. • Assist roofer craftsperson. • Perform preventative maintenance on all roofs, roof drains, gutters, downspouts, valleys, and roof draining equipment/materials. • Assist with repairs of gutters, downspouts, scuppers, flashing, flat roofs, metal roofs, slate, tile, tar, asphalt, gravel and shingle roofs. • Performs carpentry work and routine maintenance work on roofs. • Report to roofer craftsperson and shop forepersons the condition of roof or roof flashing systems in need of repair work. • Submit work orders for all roof repairs. • Read and understand blueprints of roofing systems and flashing details; make sketches of area(s) needing repair work. • Adheres to and enforces safety rules. • During inclement weather and/or different circumstances other duties will be assigned. • Sustain a high degree of safety and awareness is required to prevent physical injuries. • Exposure to heat, cold, snow, rain, and other weather factors. Skills and Abilities Required : The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties. • Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite. • Ability to use CMMS software. • Must enforce all MSDS requirements and city/state building codes. • Capable of relating to management staff and other employees. • Skilled in operating all types of equipment assigned to department including craft associated equipment. • Must be able to lift weight that exceeds 50lbs. • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds. Other: • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends without advance notice. • Must have ability, skill, and willingness to learn various types of roofing technics and equipment assigned to department. • Must have ability, skill, and willingness to learn general knowledge in all areas of job responsibilities.
