Position Summary : The School -Based Family Specialist (SBFS) serves as a school - embedded liaison between Tulsa Public Schools, Oklahoma Human Services (OKDHS), and families. The SBFS supports student success by addressing non -academic barriers to learning, strengthening family stabili ty, and coordinating access to school -based, community, and interagency resources. This role provides direct support to students and families by assessing needs, coordinating services, and supporting interventions related to attendance, behavior, social -emotional development, and family engagement. The SBFS works collaboratively with school teams and external partners to promote safe, supportive environments that enable students to succeed both at school and at home. Minimum Qualifications: Education: ● High school degree Experience: ● Three (3) years of experience in direct service with youth ● Experience working in K -12 school settings serving low -income students and communities Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, and Certifications β€’ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace β€’ Bilingual in Spanish preferred Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. OKDHS Program Responsibilities (Approximately 80%) These duties represent the core function of the SBFS role and are performed in alignment with OKDHS program requirements. β€’ Serve as a liaison between families, schools, and OKDHS to support access to Adult and Family Services (AFS) and Child Welfare (CW) programs β€’ Identify and assess the needs of students and families and connect them to appropriate state, community, or interagency services β€’ Assist families with applications and renewals for benefits such as Medicaid/SoonerCare, SNAP, TANF, childcare, and other OKDHS programs β€’ Conduct home visits or provide transportation support when required to meet program goals and family needs β€’ Support families with securing resources related to housing, food, transportation, healthcare, and basic needs β€’ Assist school personnel, when requested, with understanding child welfare referral processes and required reporting β€’ Act as a liaison to Child Welfare Services when appropriate, in coordination with the DHS Program Liaison β€’ Maintain accurate documentation of services, contacts, and referrals in OKDHS tracking systems β€’ Complete required data collection, reporting, and invoicing documentation in compliance with OKDHS requirements β€’ Participate in required OKDHS and district trainings β€’ Maintain confidentiality in accordance with state, federal, and district regulations School -Based Support Responsibilities (Approximately 20%) These duties are secondary and must remain connected to students and families receiving SBFS services. The SBFS does not own or manage schoolwide systems or provide ongoing student counseling. β€’ Serve as a point of contact between the school and families receiving SBFS services β€’ Participate in school meetings when requested and when directly related to SBFS - served students or families β€’ Provide consultation to school staff regarding available community resources and referral processes β€’ Support limited family engagement activities or school events when participation supports SBFS outreach or service connection β€’ Assist with attendance or engagement follow -up when tied to SBFS program goals β€’ Facilitate referrals to appropriate school or district staff for academic, behavioral, or mental health concerns β€’ Share relevant information with school personnel, as permitted, to support coordination of services β€’ Provide short -term follow -up or support to families at the request of the school when aligned with SBFS scope Skills and Abilities Required: The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties. β€’ Active listening and strong interpersonal skills β€’ Social awareness and sound professional judgment β€’ Critical thinking and complex problem -solving abilities β€’ Ability to work collaboratively across teams and agencies β€’ Strong written and verbal communication skills β€’ Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information Customer Contacts: ● Internal : TPS district employees and school staff ● External: Students, parents or guardians, community members, partner organizations, and local or state agencies Supervisory Responsibility: ● This position does not supervise other employees.
