JOB TITLE: School Health AideDEPARTMENT: Health Services/Assigned Site*REPORTS TO: Principal/Supervising Nurse/Lead NurseFLSA STATUS: Non-ExemptEMPLOYMENT STATUS: 9- month contract, 7 hours/dayMINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:SALARY: Based on Experience, $12.01 - $14.26 per hourEducation:High school diploma or GED; basic healthcare training preferredExperience:Minimum 1 year in health care setting preferredSkills:Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid; knowledge of universal precautions; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; basic computer skills; excellent attention to detail and accuracy; acceptable completion of district training as per skills list.*Basic data collection skills: i.e., vital signs (temporal temperature, radial pulse, adult and pediatric blood pressure respirations)*Respiratory safety: i.e., nebulizers and inhalers*Wound care: i.e., appropriately cleaning of and dressing of wounds (scrapes, abrasions, etc.)*Medication administration: i.e., oral, nasal, ophthalmic, otic and topical medications; gastrostomy tubes; use of emergency medications, including but not limited to Epi-pens, rectal Diastat, nasal versed, Glucagon*Diabetes care:per American Diabetes Association and Oklahoma State Department of Health guidelines and per student's physician orders*Procedures that may be delegated to health aides include (but not limitedto):urinary catheterization, colostomy care, gastrostomy tube care, gastrostomy tube feedings, oral suctioningESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:these statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.Utilizes standards of care and first aid training in caring for students and staffincluding but not limited to:collecting data in compliance with health services standards and supervising nurse instructionsadministering, documenting and inventorying medications in compliance with health services standardscommunicating appropriately with supervising nursecompiling data as directedproviding care within the scope of practice and limitations of positionutilizing appropriate problem solving and accurately performing approved job skillsPrioritizes and organizes completion of job responsibilities, including but notlimited to:responding in a timely manner to students, parents and staffperforming required duties in a timely manner consistent with standards and deadlinesMaintains accurate records including but not limited to:accurately documenting all services provided to students and staffaccurately utilizing appropriate computer and paper documentation systemsutilizing appropriate language, terminology and abbreviationstracking and documenting immunizationsSupports health services goals through continuous quality improvement and educational activities including but not limited to:attending health services meetings as directedcontributing ideas and information as requestedparticipating in activities and/or projects as requestedcomplying with all health services standardsParticipates appropriately in district safety activities including but not limited to:collecting, organizing and maintaining student and staff emergency informationremaining knowledgeable regarding evacuation proceduresmaintaining a safe and organized work environmentconsulting with supervising nurse regarding any potentially hazardous situation6. Handles problematic and/or difficult situations by communicating to the appropriate person.ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Primarily inside working conditions with no extreme environmental conditions. Routine exposure to body fluids.
