Position Summary : Under the supervision of the Site Administrator and Manager of School
Nursing, the nurse w orks with students and the entire school community supporting health
needs such as medication administration, first aid, immunization compliance, and workers
compensation documentation . Computer use for tasks such as email, submitting attachments,
reports, and online supply orders .
Minimum Qualifications :
Education:
• Associate’s degree in nursing; must complete bachelor’s degree within ten (10) years
from the initial issuance of Oklahoma teaching certificate
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
Experience:
• Two (2) years’ school nurse experience a plus
• Two (2) years’ supervisory experience
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:
• Licensed Registered Nurse
• Possess or ability to obtain an Oklahoma School Nurse Certification within 60 days of
hire
• Valid certification in First Aid/CPR/AED
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of

School Health Management:
• Collaborates with school personnel in identifying and meeting physical, social, and
emotional needs of school children
• Promote s and maintain s a safe and health y environment for students, staff, and families
• Counsel s with students, parents, and school personnel regarding health problems and
health behavior s
• Collect s and assess es health data using the student, family, health care professional,
health assistant; methods of data collection may include observation, screening, physical
assessment, intervention, review of records and reports
• Provide s first aid and emergency care to students and staff, notif ies parents, legal
guardian(s) or person responsible for student’s care, as indicated
• Organize s and conduct s screening programs, i.e. vision, hearing, height, weight,
scoliosis, and communicable diseases
• Refers students, parents, and staff to appropriate community resources as needed
• Monitors status of student immunizations and works with school personnel and health
assistants to ensure students meet State immunization requirements
• Monitors all student medications administered at school as prescribed by their
healthcare provider
• Make s home visits as needed
• Assure s school accident reports are filed as needed and assist s school personnel with
corrective action as appropriate
• Keep s an accurate and up -to-date list of children with special health needs
• Consult s with physician and other health care professionals as needed
• Provide s an environment conducive to privacy, confidentiality, and efficiency
• Formulate s nursing diagnosis based on comprehensive assessment and appropriate
nursing theory
• Develop s, implement s, and evaluate s Individual Health Plans for students with health
needs
Clinic Management:
• Maintain s accurate, up -to-date health records and record -keeping materials
• Observe s schedules, policies and procedures as directed by Health and Wellness
• Systematically record s data on cumulative health records and interpret s according to
norms
• Makes referrals as appropriate
• Supervise s and assist s in teaching health policies, procedures, and protocols to health
assistants and designated employee (s)
School/Community Relations:
• Maintains connections with community agencies, schools, and families to provide on-
going health support
• Maintain s open lines of communication with students, school personnel, families, and
the community to address questions and concerns about school health
• Assist s in identification of students at risk for physical and psychosocial problems
• Communicate s health needs to other school personnel as appropriate
• Supports wellness and health activities to improve and maintain a healthy school
environment
• Report s incidents of suspected child abuse, according to State Law and TPS policy, and
assist s school personnel and administrators as needed
• Acts as health advocate on behalf of the student and family as appropriate
Health Education:
• Assist s students, families, and school personnel in the attainment of developmentally
appropriate health goals through health education and counseling
• Consult s with staff in the development and implementation of new or revised health
curricula
• Promote s both formal and informal health education for students, parents, and staff
• Collaborates with district staff and community partners for health education plans for
appropriate grade levels
• Provide s health counseling and refers to appropriate professionals as needed
• Conducts health education trainings for school personnel and initiates teaching of
nursing tasks to staff members as appropriate
• Assist s school personnel in obtaining health materials, supplies, and equipment
• Provide s instruction in proper use, care, storage, and protection of equipment
• Take s an active role in developing health related curriculum and instruction of students
in this curriculum, as well as State mandated health education, i.e. HIV/AIDS
Other:
• Perform s other tasks, duties, or services consistent with this position as assigned by the
school administrator and/or manager of school nursing

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Provides oversight and closely monitors the delivery of care and services provided by
trained unlicensed staff
Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from rare to frequent
based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
