Position Summary : The School Social Worker works with a multidisciplinary team to build and maintain a cohesive, caring, and inclusive school community with tiered support for addressing behavioral and mental health needs. This position requires the monitoring of student data to identify social, behavioral, and mental health support needed to eliminate barriers to learning and enhance the academic success of students. The School Social Worker assists students and their families to connect with resources inside and outside the school to meet their unique needs. This licensed-eligible professional is available to provide short-term individual and group therapy, while also offering support to school staff in enhancing their effectiveness in working with the student population. Minimum Qualifications: Education: ● Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, or related field Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: ● Oklahoma licensure or eligible for licensure as one of the following: o Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) o Licensed Social Worker (LSW) o Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) o Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) o Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) ● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite ● Bilingual in Spanish is a plus Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. ● Uses a variety of data to assess and identify student needs that are barriers to student success in the school environment ● Serves as a member of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) site team ● Provides short-term direct counseling services to students, as needed ● Responsible for documenting interventions and support activities in the district data system ● Coordinates and implements targeted tiered skills-groups for at-risk students as needed ● Collaborates with community therapeutic agencies to coordinate resources and services for students, required member or co-lead of the Mental Health Mutli-Disciplinary Team (MDT) ● Collaborates alongside school counselor to coordinate services for students ● Collaborates with site-based attendance team to address chronic absences and barriers to regular student attendance for those who are chronically absent ● Collaborates with the site-based McKinney-Vento liaison and Parent Involvement Facilitator (PIF) to address the needs of students identified under the McKinney-Vento Act and overcome barriers to regular school attendance for those experiencing homelessness ● Provides crisis tiered intervention services – responsible for managing Tier 3 mental health crisis in conjunction with district, embedded agency, and school site. ● Provides conflict resolution services ● Participates in case conferences with other school specialists ● Guided by a variety of data, coordinates, and implements prevention programs ● Serves as a liaison between the school, family, and community ● Regularly attends district provided professional development and monthly meetings ● Performs other tasks, duties, or services consistent with this position as assigned Skills and Abilities Required: The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties. ● Knowledge of TPS policies and procedures as well as campus and community resource availability ● Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) ● Apply and integrate social work theories, frameworks, concepts, and principles in practice, guiding effective interventions and promoting positive outcomes for individuals, families, and communities ● Knowledge of programs available to meet a range of mental health, health, academic, and social service needs ● Knowledge of state, local, and federal laws impacting the lives of students (e.g., laws regarding confidentiality, laws regarding child abuse and neglect) ● Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team ● Knowledge in the areas of group dynamics and processes ● Knowledge in the areas of threat assessment and crisis response ● Ability to provide short-term individual and group therapeutic services ● Ability to organize and facilitate meetings in a professional manner ● Intrinsic motivation, persistence, and excellent communication skills ● Open to change and applies critical thinking while developing solutions based on new guidelines, methods, and technologies ● Ability to create buy-in from people with diverse perspectives and backgrounds for new ideas and approaches Customer Contacts: ● Internal: TPS District Employees ● External: Students, parents, state agencies, community leaders, community members Supervisory Responsibilities: ● This role does not directly supervise any individuals Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable. ● Physical requirements consistent with an office setting ● Occasional travel between district sites Tulsa Public Schools is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team of individuals who contribute to the district's mission with their talents, skills, and energy.
