Position Summary: The Secondary Counselor Coach supports the development of effective
school counselors to maximize student success. The coach works with new and experienced
counselors to ensure students receive a high- quality sequence of rigorous coursework that
prepares them for success in college and careers.
Working across secondary sites in partnership with the Manager of Academic Counseling and
the Postsecondary Readiness team, this position supports counselors in providing each student
an individualized and equitable academic trajectory, contributing to increased graduation rates,
increased college enrollment and completion, and successful workforce entry.
Key Functions:
• Coaches and mentors secondary school counselors to strengthen counseling practice
• Supports development of school -site comprehensive counseling programs using the
ASCA framework
• Supports counselors in using student data to improve on- track -to-graduate outcomes
• Develops resources and tools that increase counselor effectiveness
• Supports professional learning in partnership with the Manager of Academic Counseling
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
• Master’s degree in counseling or related field required
Experience:
• Three (3) years of experience in effective secondary school counseling or secondary
classroom teaching
Licenses and Certifications:
• Must hold a valid Oklahoma school counselor certification at hire and maintain it
throughout employment
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between district secondary sites
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) framework
• Deep knowledge of Oklahoma graduation requirements, college admission criteria, and
workforce development needs
• Familiarity with personalized and competency -based learning
• Familiarity with Naviance, PowerSchool, and College Board systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
• Strong written communication skills and the ability to design and publish user -friendly
resources and tools
• Ability to design and facilitate professional learning experiences
• Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple
priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong attention to detail
• A positive outlook, flexibility, and sense of possibility in stressful situations
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable a qualified

• Supports school counselors in developing goals aligned to the District’s vision, mission,
core values, and priorities
• Supports assigned schools’ continuous improvement objectives and strategies
• Supports counselor training in disaggregating student data using the Data Dashboard
• Assists school counselors in developing their school sites’ comprehensive counseling
programs using the ASCA framework
• Serves as a mentor to new and novice secondary school counselors, providing expertise
in course trajectories and graduation requirements
• Provides professional development for effective counseling practices in partnership with the Manager of Academic Counseling
• Assists the Manager of Academic Counseling in the evaluative process of the Teacher
Leader Effectiveness model for school counselors, sharing relevant information with
principals; does not serve as the evaluator of record
• Supports data -based strategic planning with the Postsecondary Readiness team so
secondary counselors are familiar with all postsecondary opportunities
• Supports secondary counselors in strategic action plans to increase on -track -to-graduate
course completions and successful student outcomes
• Coordinates with Enrollment Center Registrars to support communication with school -
site counselors
• Develops resources and tools to increase school counselor effectiveness
• Performs other tasks, duties, or services consistent with this position as assigned

• Internal: School counselors, the Manager of Academic Counseling, the Postsecondary
Readiness team, and Enrollment Center Registrars
• External : Students, parents, community members, and partnered vendors
Supervisory Responsibility:
• None

• Occasional to frequent travel between secondary district sites to coach and support
counselors
• Periodic communication and presenting while facilitating professional development for counselors
• Computer and screen use for developing resources, reviewing student data, and strategic planning
