Position Summary : Dire ctly assist students with significant disabilities who attend Tulsa Transition Academy in acquiring vocational and life skills aligned with their postsecondary goals. The job coach will support and supervise students while working in the school setting and out in the community. Minimum Qualifications: Education : • High School Diploma or GED • 48 earned college credit hours from an accredited college or university or successful passage of the Highly Qualified Test Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: • CPR and First Aid training and re -certification as required • OSDE Paraprofessional Registry must be completed prior to employment as a Job Coach. • Employment Consultant Training • Annually complete six hours of staff development specifically designed for support personnel working with students who have disabilities. • Certification in district -approved relationship -building and de -escalation strategies • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite • Prefer experience as a job coach in either a vocational or school setting Physical Requirements : • Adequate physical strength and mobility are required to implement strategies for de - escalation and emergency intervention when necessary • Be able to run in situations regarding student safety; Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds • Be able to sit or stand long periods without a break Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. • Administer s career assessments under the direct supervision of the transition teacher • Work s with transition agencies • Attend s meetings with students and parents • Aids students and employers while creating independence for the student • Accompan ies students to and from job sites • Provide s job shadowing experiences • Assist s students with completing applications • Provide s ongoing monitoring and support for students and employers • Keep s job performance records of each student • Applies systematic training skills to assist students in performing their jobs effectively • Assist s the teacher in classroom ac tivities • Reinforce s instruction and provide s assistance with self -help skills (e.g., feeding, toilet training, diapering, personal hygiene needs/matters, dressing) • Provide s individual and small group instruction in the areas of independent living skills, vocational skills, recreation and leisure skills, community participation skills, and self - advocacy skills under the direct supervision of the transition teacher • Assist s with IEP accommodations as needed • Monitor s and supervise s student behaviors in school -related and program activities • Attend s staff development training as requested by the district • Assist s students with obtaining state IDs, background checks, fingerprinting, food handler permits, and other necessary pre -employment requirements • Assist s students in using wheelchair s, lifts and other devices used to transport students from one activity to another • Perform s other tasks, duties, or services consistent with this position as assigned Skills and Abilities Required: The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties. • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information • Protect and promote student’s rights to dignity, privacy and respect • Ability to interpret and imp lement behavior plans, teaching or lesson plans, and other written guidelines • Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, firmness, compassion, courtesy and consistency • Open to change and applies critical thinking while developing solutions based on new guidelines, methods, and technologies Customer Contacts: • Internal: TPS District Employees • External: Students, families, employment agencies, community members Supervisory Responsibilities: • This role does not directly supervise any individuals Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from rare to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable. • Physical requirements consistent with a classroom setting • Frequent travel between district sites and community places (restaurants, public library, grocery stores , etc.) Tulsa Public Schools is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team of individuals who contribute to the district's mission with their talents, skills, and energy.
